SAMA also counts on the support of commissions that ensure the compliance with the asbestos safety and controlled use standards and procedures.
- CCA – Asbestos Controlled Use Commission – is responsible for monitoring the asbestos controlled use.
The main objective of the commission is to help to preserve the employees' health in the areas with potential for emission of asbestos fibers, through inspections and proposal of measures to eliminate those emissions.
- CIPA – Internal Commission for Prevention of Accidents – is responsible for monitoring the compliance with the standards, suggesting and implementing improvements aiming at eliminating/minimizing the Safety and Occupational Health (SSO) risks.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL LABORATORY
SAMA's Environmental Control Laboratory monitors the occupational and environmental exposure to inorganic fibers and other breathable particulate matters, in compliance with the national and international sampling methods.
The team responsible for monitoring the air in the workstations and in the Minaçu community is comprised of technicians. All employees of Environmental Control are accredited in counting of inorganic fibers through inter-laboratory tests organized by the English laboratory IOM (Institute of Occupational Medicine) and accredited by AFRICA (Asbestos Fibre Regular Informal Counting Arrangement).
FIRE FIGHTING
The company has a fire brigade able to act in the Reserved Forest and in the industrial plant, provided with state-of-the-art fire fighting equipment and vehicles.
