Since its foundation, SAMA has believed that the quality, environment protection, safety and the employees’ health were its main goals.
SAMA Management System, comprising quality and environment, based on the ISO 9001 and 14001 standards, respectively, confirms the commitment of the Company's Top Management.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

The works for implementation of the Quality Management System, based on NBR ISO 9002, started in October 1994 and, after 19 months of hard work, involving all employees of the Industrial Plant, in May 1996 SAMA was certified by DNV – Det Norske Veritas, thus becoming the world's first asbestos mining company to achieve such certification.
After the implementation of the Quality Management System the company was Re-certified in 1999. In May 2002, SAMA was certified by ISO 9001:2000.
The major purpose that leaded the company to search for such certification was to improve the qualification of its employees and search for excellence in the product quality, aiming at serving its customers in the several market segments, marketing products compatible with its requirements, as provided for in its quality policy.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
After one year and eight months of work, which was extended from April 1997 to December 1998, SAMA – Mineração de Amianto Ltda. received the quality certificate of the Environmental Management System NBR ISO 14001, by DNV – Det Norske Veritas, thus becoming, as well as in the quality management, the world's first asbestos mining company of the world to receive such certification. In December 2001, it has received the re-certification, ratifying its search for continuous improvement.
The principle that guided SAMA was the awareness and search for solutions to the environmental issues and in the technological development integrated to the better life quality, a guarantee for the present and future generations.
Believing in this principle, SAMA started its work towards the implementation of the Environmental Management System. During the implementation, one of the outstanding points was the participation and commitment of the employees and partners of all levels, at all process phases.
120 multipliers were trained, who transferred the training for all SAMA employees and to the partners that act inside the Industrial Plant and São Paulo Office, in a total of 1,067 people.
The Internal Environmental Auditors were also trained. Currently, the company counts on more than 50 of those professionals.
Suppliers were engaged in the process through the program of knowledge and publishing of the environmental policy and assessment of the environmental requirements of their activities.
