The natural forest reserve, with 2,500 ha, kept by SAMA, is subject to fire in the season of burns. Several measures are taken in order to avoid those events:
- Construction of clearing areas in the borders and in the middle of the reserve;
- Formation of fire brigade which is subject to internal and external recycling with the support of IBAMA, through PREV-FOGO;
- Awareness of the farmers about the negative effects of the burns.

A change of attitude is required and must start from each of us, with feeling and commitment. We must not forget that a company that affects the environment is formed by human beings. The same human beings that sometimes claim for environment preservation, forgetting that their participation is essential for the environment maintenance. The change must happen with actions at our home, work place and quotidian life.
Through the awareness of the employees and several environmental actions, SAMA has implemented the Environmental Management System, which is certified by an international standard.
More than an achievement, such certificate means a commitment to the life quality of the employees and of the community, since every day, with each attitude, we renew our commitment, in the treatment and correct disposal of our waste, reduction in the use of natural resources, pollution prevention or awareness of our work colleagues.
