This project, which is being developed at the SAMA S.A. - Minerações Associadas Residential Village, at Turtles Lagoon, with area of 29,625 square meters, comprises two complementary activities: the handling of the Amazon Turtle reproduction and Environmental Education activities along with the local community.

PQS is the first conservationist nursery of the State of Goiás made at a mining company, the activities of which started in 1995, having been regulated by IBAMA in 1999.

The handling works are comprised of biometrics (measurement and weighting of the animals), registration in individual cards and food complementation at dry-weather season). The follow-up of the animals is made through a marking with bores in the shields, serving as identification code.

The contact with the animals and the environmental education activities are focused to the sensitization of the students who, from the initial grades, attend visits and lectures about environmental importance themes.

So as that the project technicians could perform all of those activities, SAMA invested in the construction of the required facilities, according to the RAN/IBAMA standards (Reptiles and Amphibians Conservation and Handling Center) which is considered as a reference standard for Conservationist Nursery.
